Testimonials

Those who know me well, know I am not normally one to ‘blow my own trumpet’ – but I am also keenly aware that taking on a mentor or editor is a huge undertaking and sometimes it helps to hear from others who have benefited. A mentor/mentee relationship is so very important and it’s just as much about finding the right fit, as it is making sure that person has the right skills for you to learn from. It’s important to research your editor or mentor before diving in.

I have been so very fortunate to work with some fabulous writers, and their kind words remind me that writing isn’t always a solitary job, sometimes you need a cheerleader, a friend, and even a teacher to help you achieve your dream; so here are just a few testimonials from those who feel my help has been valuable.

Emma-Claire Wilson is a master storyteller and brilliant editor.
Not only has she edited dozens of my articles for The Glass House online magazine, which she did with diplomacy, care and expertise, but she was integral to the development of my debut thriller that landed me an agent and a Big 5 publishing deal in the space of just four months.
Using her mentoring services, she was able to guide me with plotting and pacing, ensuring my structure was tight, as well as deepening my characterisation.
I am in no doubt that I would not have had the success I’ve had were it not for her support and input in the early stages of my writing journey.

Emma completed a full manuscript assessment for me when it became clear that my novel wasn’t hitting all the right notes. It needed fresh eyes and I’m so pleased that I chose Emma to give me her thoughts.
She saw the meaning of my novel straight away and understood what I was trying to achieve. Emma is detail-driven and this was what was needed for my manuscript, which had already undergone numerous drafts and changes. She was able to dig down and pull out the threads that weren’t linking properly. Her feedback was invaluable!
But in addition to this, she was a brilliant cheerleader for me (and still is!), giving me the push I needed to trust myself as a writer more, be braver and go deeper. I have no reservation recommending Emma’s services, no matter where you are on your writing journey

“Emma has that rare ability to make a story all singing and dancing by extracting the elements that matter, tweaking and amplifying them until your MC’s voice rings clear as a bell, your plot-holes are as smooth as cake icing, and your storyline beats are punchier than a disco. No matter the genre. And always sympathetically, honouring your true voice to help you perfect your work whilst retaining your unique voice.
Her skills are unparalleled and I have worked with her both from a journalistic P.O.V when she has helped me tighten the structure, flow, angle, and message of my blogs and articles… and as a mentor in the early days of my rom-com career. I cannot recommend her highly enough and her own achievements and the recognition she has garnered in the industry are testament to her talent.”

Samantha Curtis/Isabella May – Author

“Having taken a number of well-regarded writing courses and found too many of them to be a waste of money and time, I can honestly say that Emma’s mentorship has been more inspiring and beneficial for my fiction writing than anything I’ve experienced before. She’s challenged me, motivated me and energised me and I couldn’t recommend her humour, expertise and guidance highly enough.”

If you don’t like writing query letters, synopsis or reviews, you’re just like me. 🙂 This is an exception though. I’m writing this because I truly love working with Emma and I don’t know how to express my gratitude.
When we first started, it was simply about editing my book. But I soon realized that Emma was offering much more than that. She didn’t just help me improve the writing, she also helped me understand the flaws in my plot and where things needed more depth or clarity.
Her feedback encouraged me to look at my own work more critically, and although I sometimes struggled with editing on my own (as I’m not a native speaker) Emma was always there with thoughtful advice and guidance. What began as editing turned into something closer to mentoring.
Thanks to Emma’s help, I truly believe that my book is now stronger than before. And for the first time, I feel I might actually have a chance at getting traditionally published.
Now that I’ve finished the book, I’m already thinking about working with Emma again. If you’re looking for not just an editor, but someone who can guide and support you through the writing process, I would highly recommend Emma.
